The UNOLS Marine Seismic Research Operations Committee (MSROC) is an advisory committee established in accordance with Annex IX of the University-National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS) Charter.
We are seeking nominations for a Committee Chair and two committee members, each of whom will serve a three-year term beginning in December 2026, following the completion of the MSROC Annual Community Meeting.
MSROC is looking for individuals who represent the broad spectrum of the marine seismic research community and who are committed to supporting the committee's mission. Nominees should be willing to actively participate in committee activities and contribute to fulfilling the committee's responsibilities as outlined below. We encourage nominations of individuals with diverse expertise, perspectives, and experience in marine seismic research operations.

Committee Responsibilities
T The Marine Seismic Research Operations Committee (MSROC) provides scientific oversight, asset coordination, and strategic guidance for U.S. marine seismic research facilities. The committee represents the marine seismic research community by promoting broad access to and effective utilization of marine seismic assets. MSROC also advises UNOLS and federal funding agencies on technical advances and strategic priorities that help maintain state-of-the-art capabilities for marine seismic research.
MSROC consists of up to nine members who collectively represent the breadth of the marine seismic research community and carry out the committee's responsibilities. The MSROC Chair also serves as a member of the UNOLS Council.
The standing committee reviews all nominations and recommends candidates to the UNOLS Council for appointment. Members serve three-year terms and may serve no more than two consecutive terms.
Nomination Materials
Scientists interested in serving as an MSROC member should submit the following information:
- A current curriculum vitae (maximum two pages).
- A brief statement of interest describing:
- Your vision for marine seismic research over the next decade.
- Your experience using marine seismic facilities and/or data.
- Your ideas for strengthening workforce development and supporting early-career scientists through MSROC activities.
- Individuals wishing to be considered for Committee Chair should clearly indicate their interest in their submission.

Appointments are made with consideration for the committee's overall balance of expertise, disciplinary representation, institutional diversity, and the broad interests of the marine seismic research community.
