UNOLS Research Vessel Technical Enhancement Committee (RVTEC)
Chair - Elect
The UNOLS Research Vessel Technical Enhancement Committee (RVTEC) is seeking applications and nominations to fill the Chair Elect position starting in October 2025.
The purpose of the RVTEC is to promote the scientific productivity of research programs that make use of research vessels and oceanographic facilities and to foster activities that enhance technical support for sea-going scientific programs. Specific tasks for the RVTEC include but are not limited to:

Promoting the exchange of technical information.

Enhancing the technical skills of available technical support personnel in the UNOLS community.

Guiding new RVTEC initiatives and the application of new technologies.
The volunteer Chair Elect position serves a three-year term, followed by a three-year term as Chair, for a maximum of six years. The RVTEC Chair plays a key role in the Annual RVTEC Meeting by assisting in the development of the agenda and actively participating in the meeting. In addition, the Chair represents the RVTEC community on the UNOLS Council, helping to highlight issues and priorities relevant to the community, and is expected to attend and actively participate in Council meetings (two in-person and one virtual annually). All travel expenses for Council meetings are covered by the UNOLS office. The Chair may also be asked to contribute to other technical initiatives as needed. If the Chair is unable to attend a UNOLS Council meeting, the Chair Elect will stand in, fully participating, including any required votes.

How to Nominate
Nominations are invited from individuals affiliated with a UNOLS institution and can be submitted to Tara@unols.org. Self-nominations are encouraged!
Each nomination should include:

An outline of their sea-going technical experience.

A brief statement of interest to serve as RVTEC Chair-Elect/Chair. The statement of interest should include why the nominee is interested in becoming the RVTEC Chair Elect, highlight the nominee’s seagoing and technical experience as well as how the nominee's efforts, or service have supported RVTEC along with any initiatives and interests they plan to bring to the RVTEC community. Applicants who have not yet had the opportunity for such experience should note how their contributions will further the RVTEC Community.
