The Axial Seamount Expedition 2015 utilized R/V Thomas G Thompson, ROV Jason and AUV Sentry to explore the Axial Seamount off the coast of Oregon in late August. The research goals of this cruise were to take seafloor pressure measurements, collect samples of hydrothermal vent fluid for chemical and microbial analysis and study the impacts of the recent April 2015 eruption. The crew wrote an excellent blog about the successful cruise, which features several videos. This research expedition was funded by NSF, NOAA, and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.
