Duties: 
Assist to maintain and operate the R/V John M. Kingsbury, R/V J.B. Heiser and all related elements of the waterfront providing transportation, supply, and program services for Shoals Marine Laboratory (SML). Regularly act in full capacity as captain of SML’s USCG inspected vessels (R/V John M. Kingsbury and R/V Heiser) including the onboard supervision of at least one crewmember. Oversee the operation of laboratory and oceanographic equipment during open-water laboratories, paying particular attention to the health and safety of all vessel occupants. Expected to be available for consultation and emergency response at all times. Provide instruction and supervision for student staff engaged in waterfront related activities.
Qualifications: 
50 Ton Near Coastal Master. Experience with shipboard educational programming. Must be able to live and work on Appledore Island in the Gulf of Maine from May - September 2019.

The Shoals Marine Laboratory is a seasonal field station located on Appledore Island in the Gulf of Maine. Founded in 1966 and jointly operated by Cornell University and the University of New Hampshire, it is the largest field station in the country dedicated to undergraduate education in the marine sciences.
