Steward (Temporary - 1 Month)

MBARI is looking for a relief Steward for the month of March 2019. The relief steward is responsible for food services, cleanliness of the galley and store areas, and linen services. The R/V Western Flyer is a single person steward department supporting a maximum crew of 26 including this position. Food services duties include provisioning, inventory, menu planning and food preparation to provide 3 meals a day while at sea. Cleanliness of the galley and store areas shall be consistent with best safe food handling practicies as well as safety of the ship and crew. Linen duties include distribution and collection of dirty linen for transport to a shore-side laundry service. Western Flyer trips are a maximum of 10 days before returning to port.


This position reports directly to the Chief Mate, and may be tasked with additional duties as dictated by the safety of life at sea. Minimum credentials required are USCG Merchant Mariner Credential as Food Handler with STCW endorsement, as well as Transportation Worker Identity Card (TWIC).
