RV Savannah - Marine Engineer

  • Maintains the vessel machinery and keeps equipment in top condition at all times, including a maintenance history and record log.
  • Performs preventine maintenance on all equipment including: cranes, winches, main engine, gensets, hydraulic units, MSD's, HVAC including chiller systems, and other related equipment.
  • Perform duties as regular crewman, standing deck watches and assisting in the deployment and recovery of scientific equipment.
  • Required to perfom duties as regular crewman, standing deck watches and assists with deployment and recovery of scientific equipment, and other duties as assigned.
  • Time/effort is split between frequent cruises (usually 1-10 days duration) and on shore.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge of marine maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of diesal and gas engines, pumps, compressors, generators, and auxillary equipment common to marine vessels.
  • Good physical conditioning and an ability to lift and carry a minimum of 70 pounds.
  • Operation and maintenance experience on commercial, military, private or research vessels.
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent with 1-5 years related experience required.
  • Designated Duty Engineer, preferred (DDE).
  • STCW Certificate required- USCG Entry Level Deck License preferred.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and drug test is required.
