The Captain of the UWM School of Freshwater Sciences research vessel, R/V Neeskay, is responsible for the safe, professional operation of the vessel, supervises the maintenance and improvement of the mechanical, electrical, electronic, navigational, and deck equipment systems of the vessel, assists scientists in planning and carrying out scientific cruises, contributes to the educational programs at the School, and acts as a member of the Freshwater Sciences support team. This position reports to the Associate Director for Facilities and Marine Operations at the School of Freshwater Sciences.The position requires a high level of interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills. The ship's captain is, by both law and tradition, solely and ultimately responsible for the safety and good conduct of the ship and all persons aboard. Because of these legal responsibilities, the Captain has full authority over all operations and personnel aboard.

• Bachelor’s degree
• 100T Great Lakes Masters License
• Effective written communication skills
