Relief First Assistant Engineer

Duties: 

This is a sea-going position aboard the R/V Kilo Moana. The ship is operated by the University of Hawaii Marine Center, based in Honolulu. Acts as the Chief Engineer's principal assistant in all matters pertaining to engineering and administration of the Engineering Department. Acts as the daily Foreman of the plant and oversees the performance of routine maintenance and repairs. Under the direction of the Chief Engineer, assigns, directs, and supervises daily work and watch standing of the Engineers in the Department. Completes all scheduled maintenance items and supervises the consumption and purification of fuel, as directed by the Chief Engineer. 

Qualifications: 

Must possess a current MMC and required STCW documentation of training and validity for USCG First Assistant Engineer license Unlimited HP, with oceans endorsement, a valid USCG Medical Certificate, and a valid Transportation Worker's Identification Credential (TWIC).

About Employer: 

The UH Marine Center is responsible for coordinating operations on and maintaining the 186' SWATH (Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull) R/V Kilo Moana (KM). UH Marine Center facilities are currently located at Pier 35 in Honolulu Harbor. These facilities include: pier spaces for the KM, visiting research vessels, and several smaller vessels; a machine shop; cranes; and storage facilities.

 

Services provided by the Marine Center include: ship scheduling; provision of shipboard crew and technicians; engineering support; coordination of shared equipment such as underwater vehicles, submersibles, and small boats; and vessel chartering.
