Maintain and operate engineering department machinery aboard an ocean research ship of approximately 2000 gross tons. Under direct supervision, perform routine maintenance and operation of propulsion or auxiliary machinery aboard a ship. Perform general maintenance, of ship's machinery and mechanical equipment; accomplish minor repairs to hull fittings and structure; lubricate machinery; monitor operation of propulsion and auxiliary machinery to insure proper and safe operation; assist in the repair of marine machinery; enter readings in engineering log and operating records; stand security watch as required; perform related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications: U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner's document endorsed with "Qualified Member of the Engine Department (QMED)-Oiler rating." STCW-95.
