Supervise operations of the Shoals Marine Laboratory kitchen on Appledore Island. Lead the planning and preparation of 20 meals per week for Appledore Island residents and visitors. Supervise three additional chefs, and up to five student staff. Provide regular meal planning and special event meal planning (end-of-class banquets, VIP receptions). Responsible for food purchasing, budgetary compliance and storage. Ensure compliance with Maine Department of Health regulations. Maintain cleanliness and safe operating environment of kitchen at all times. This position is seasonal and operates 5/4/2020-9/18/2020
Applicants must be eligible for employment in the United States. Selected candidates must be able to successfully participate in pre-employment and random drug testing, and meet the University of New Hampshire’s hiring requirements for both criminal and driving history (background checks are required). Applicants must have professional food service experience and interest in working in a remote educational environment.
About Employer: 
Shoals Marine Laboratory (SML) is a residential, teaching facility located on Appledore Island, Isles of Shoals, Maine. The island field station is open seasonally from May-September, and supports students, faculty, visitors and staff in a close-knit, sustainable community. Room and board is provided for island staff; private staff housing (separate from students) is located in a renovated Coast Guard Station. The work week is 5 days on and two days off. All staff serve the island community as a team with each department working together to support SML’s academic programs.
