Duties: 
Assist with maintenance and operation of the R/V John M. Kingsbury, R/V J.B. Heiser and all related elements of the Shoals Marine Laboratory (SML) waterfront. Provide shipboard transportation, supply, and program services for SML. Regularly act in full capacity as captain of SML’s USCG inspected vessels including the onboard supervision of at least one crew member. Oversee the operation of laboratory and oceanographic equipment during open-water laboratories, paying particular attention to the health and safety of all vessel occupants.
Qualifications: 
Experienced USCG 50 Ton Inland Master (50 Ton Near Coastal Master preferred)
Willingness to support diverse field station operations and programming
Desire to relocate to isolated island environment 5 nights/week during SML operating season
Experience with educational programming
About Employer: 
Jointly operated by the University of New Hampshire and Cornell University, Shoals Marine Laboratory (SML) is a residential, teaching facility located on Appledore Island, Isles of Shoals, Maine. The island field station is open seasonally from May-September, and supports students, faculty, visitors and staff in a close-knit, sustainable community. Room and board is provided for island staff; private staff housing (separate from students) is located in a renovated Coast Guard Station. The work week is 5 days long, and time-off housing (2 nights/week) is provided in Portsmouth, NH. All staff serve the island community as a team with each department working together to support SML's academic programs. Seasonal island staff at SML are employed by the University of New Hampshire.
