The University of Delaware is seeking a Marine Engineer to serve as an Assistant Engineer and sail in the rotation as Chief Engineer. The SHARP is a 146’ oceanographic research vessel with z-drives and other advanced engineering systems. The Engineering team monitors, maintains, and repairs the ship’s propulsion, power, and auxiliary equipment. Engineers also operate winches and frames to deploy and recover scientific equipment and assist with science operations. The ship has a great team atmosphere and interesting missions. Missions are typically near-coastal along the Atlantic coast and 10-18 days long. Ship maintenance is performed alongside Monday – Friday during the offseason.
Candidates must hold a valid U.S. Coast Guard credential with a minimum endorsement as a Designated Duty Engineer (DDE- 4000 HP). This is a full-time position providing outstanding benefits (vacation, health insurance, retirement plan contributions). The SHARP is part of the U.S. Academic Research Fleet and the University National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS) conducting federal agency and academic cutting-edge research at sea.
