The Small Research Vessel Inventory includes small research vessels from 35 feet to 135 feet located at UNOLS institutions. The main purpose of this inventory is to assist researchers in finding the best platform for their science. Each entry contains, at a minimum, the vessel's name, length, location and point of contact.
The listing of these vessels does not certify that they are UNOLS-approved, but rather that they are available for scientific programs. These smaller vesels need to meet the criteria established by NSF (see Guidance for Chartering Vessel Outside US Academic Research Fleet) for use with federal funding support. A UNOLS Marine Superintendent is approved to do the inspection of these boats to make sure they have the appropriate safety gear on board.
