The New polar-capable Research Vessel Sikuliaq docked in Woods Hole the week of August 4th, 2014. The ship visited the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) for additional outfitting, including wire spooling, and gave the UNOLS Office and local scientists a chance to tour this exciting new addition to the U.S. Academic Research Fleet.

The Sikuliaq cost $200 M to build, and is uniquely equipped to take researchers to hard-to-access, ice choked regions and learn more about marine life, our oceans, our atmosphere, and global climate. Following her visit to WHOI, the ship will sail south to Puerto Rico for her "shakedown sea trials" and will arrive in Alaska around February 2015.
