Motions and Action
Items:
Fleet Improvement Plan (FIP): Initiate drafting of a new FIP for beyond 2030 considering a different form for the plan and new models for future fleet acquisitions. Incorporate, where appropriate, Consortium for Ocean Leadership recommendations. The Ocean Acoustics Section will be appended to the Fleet Improvement Plan.
FIC
Membership Status – A call for nominations to fill two positions will be
announced.
R/V Barnes Replacement Plans - A motion was made and passed to endorse NSFÕs Ship Condition recommendation to extend the service-life of the R/V Barnes to 2016 (Checkley/Hine). Clare Reimers will draft a letter to the Council in support of UWÕs request of service life extension for R/V Clifford Barnes based on high utilization and plans for replacement.
Fleet Projected Service Life End Dates – Motion was made and passed to table the discussion and review of the service life end dates until more information is available (Conte/Devol). Work with agencies to update all end of service life projections for existing vessels in the fleet.
Vessel Optimal Usage - Define optimal windows of usage for ships by class rather than single fixed number of days.
Continuing Action:
Hugh R. Sharp User Debriefs – A motion was made and passed that 2011 be the last year of the Hugh R. Sharp user debriefs and that the data collected be summarized into a report that can be provided to new constructions and technology efforts. (Willis/Checkley).
