An Appendix A Workshop will be presented in Seattle by the University of Miami’s Director of Marine Technical Services, Rich Findley and Research Support Coordinator, Aubri Steele.

If you sail aboard UNOLS ships, use or own oceanographic wire and cable within UNOLS, or use WHOI/UNOLS Winch and/or Wire Pool, these new standards are to be implemented June 2011; compliance is required. These are impending changes and will affect all UNOLS vessels.

• Wire rope & Cable characteristics
• Loads on Tension Members
• Wire Spooling
• Understanding Factors of Safety
• Wire Logbooks
• Winch Operator designations
• Wire Pool Database & WHOI Testing Facility
• Calibrating Tension Monitoring Equipment
• Resolving issues with compliance per NSF Guidelines
