HEALY WORKSHOP

6-7 NOVEMBER 1996

The Arctic Icebreaker Coordinating Committee (AICC) held a workshop at the Avondale shipyard in Avondale, LA on 6-7 November. Present were AICC members, Jim Swift, Chair, Dan Lubin, Kelly Falkner, Glenn Cota, Joe Coburn, Tom Weingartner, Larry Lawver and Lisa Clough. Also present from UNOLS were Ken Johnson, Chair, and Jack Bash. The USCG was represented by: Capt. Gregory Johnson, CDR Ian Grunther, LCDR Al Geiser (USN), CDR Eric Jewess, Bob Dumont, LCDR William Reicks, LCDR Robert Kaylor, LT William Allen, LT Eric Ford, LTJG Heather Solanka, CWO3 Sam Neihart, CWO3 Guy Farnsworth, CWO2 William Hamberg, CWO2 Eric Harrold, DCCM Ray Johnson, CDR Charles Lancaster, Cdr Steve Seilbeck; from John J. McMullen Associates, Todd Andre-Colton Sherikon and from Crystal City Office Support Service Contractor, Don Chambers.

The workshop involved an intensive briefing by the USCG concerning the design and construction of HEALY. A tour of the construction site was part of the workshop. After the thorough briefing the AICC provided the USCG with recommended changes to the science spaces of HEALY. The workshop was considered a significant success with clear and open discussion by all parties. The USCG's attitude and cooperation were exemplary.
