I am interested in a relief position as an Able-Seaman or Ordinary-Seaman.
The experience and skills aquired as a deckhand on board the charter
yacht Sumdum, an AB aboard the NOAA ship Rainier, as well as, my current
position, might compliment your research vessel.
Presently, I am sailing as a deckhand/cook aboard the R/V MEDEIA, 110 foot research vessel operated by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Our vessel’s primary function is to support commercial fisheries management in Southeast Alaska. Some of my duties include purchasing food, planning, preparing and cooking meals for boat crew and scientists (up to 16 people); cleaning interior of vessel; scraping, sanding, needle gunning and painting vessel and auxiliary equipment; operating skiffs between vessel and shore and retrieving personnel and equipment during fisheries and wildlife studies in a variety of weather and sea conditions; standing lookout and wheel watches; assisting with basic engine maintenance; conducting engine room checks while underway; tie up and let go; operating crane, crab block, ground tackle and inspecting safety gear and equipment.
In addition to paid experience, for the past 8 years I have lived aboard a 49 foot Marine Trader, a raised pilothouse trawler. This familiarity has allowed me to cruise extensively in the waters of Southeast Alaska in addition to spending many hours alongside the dock performing routine maintenance.
Please feel free to contact me regarding references.
