Dear Sir or Madam:
I write with genuine interest in sailing on my license as a Third Assistant Engineer on one of your research vessels.
Two months after graduation, I entered the Nuclear Operations Program as a Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory employee. In the time since passed, I have enjoyed a successful and fulfilling tour in the Operations Program. However, in the last few months I have carefully reconsidered my life's aspirations and direction. I have thus resolved to seek a position to sail on my license as an engineer onboard a ship.
I have a special interest for the ocean, and the kind of atmosphere that exists on these vessels. As a Kings Point graduate (US Merchant Marine Academy) I sailed between many exotic ports around the world, and also sailed to McMurdo Station in Antarctica. During my travels I encountered many research vessels, foreign and domestic, and considered how exciting it would be to be aboard.
With much humility, and as a scientist at heart, I emphasize my love and adoration for working with my hands & mind, and across the deep sea. I therefore ask your consideration in this, the attached information, and the possibility of my contribution to your engineering team.
Respectfully submitted,
Gregory Dennis Sachs
