All,

I am looking for an all in one meteorological package with wind speed &

direction, air temperature, barometric pressure and relative humidity.  I

have used Coastal Climate‰Ûªs Weatherpak 2000 but it had more reliability

problems than I liked.

I am currently looking at the Vaisala WXT520 and the Gill MetPak. Does

anyone in the community have experience using the sensors on ships or

buoys?   Anything else I should be looking at?

Regards,

Rich

Rich,

WHOI has been using the WXT520's for a couple of years now with good

success. They produce "forecast" quality and not "climate" quality data,

like the older IMET instruments, however, this is the standard for most

of the MET instruments out there anyway. Also, the cost to purchase and

maintain them is an order of magnitude lower. Because of this I can put

multiple WXT520's on the mast for redundancy. If someone requests IMET

instruments we put on a set for that cruise.

If you do look seriously at the Vaisala's don't purchase any of the

WXT510's. They had problems with water leakage.

Give a call if you want more specific information.
